PROPER REARING AND KEEPING OF ANIMALS – BEREKUM WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY EDUCATES FARMERS

The District Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Marvin Ankomah Boateng and his assistant, Michael Ayariga of the Berekum West District Assembly on Thursday, 20th of April 2023 educated the people of Jinijini and other neighbouring Communities within the District on the proper rearing and keeping of animals.

The Information Service Department of the Assembly in collaboration with Adikanfo FM, a local radio station in Jinijini on every thursday at 10:00am to 11:00am, give a weekly update on the activities of the Assembly. The program which is dubbed, “Time with Berekum West District Assembly” affords the constituents of the various Communities the opportunity to interact with the staff of the Assembly especially the District Information Officer who is responsible for disseminating programmes and projects of the Assembly to the Community as well as getting the public’s feedback and reactions to those projects and programmes for the Assembly and government at large.

It is with this radio initiative that the Environmental Health Officer was on air to educate and sensitize the public on how to keep and rear their livestock to prevent destruction of properties by the animals. Mr. Boateng also cautioned the listeners to abide by the rules governing the rearing of livestock else his Office will take the necessary actions against them. “I would like to use this platform to admonish all the farmers listening to this program that, the Assembly through my office will start summoning owners of stray animals for appropriate punishment” – He said.

Before the Environmental Health Officer spoke, the acting District Information Officer, Mr. Domfeh Emmanuel took the public through some of the activities of the Assembly. “Last week, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Dominic Oppong led some staff of the Assembly to the office of the Chief Imam, Jinijini to donate some bags of rice and sugar to the Muslim Community in the District as a support for the Ramadan. The Hon. DCE on behalf of the Assembly requested for prayers from the Muslim Community for the leaders and staff of the Assembly. The Justice and Security Committee is also having an ongoing meeting to discuss about the recent impasse between the youth of Fetentaa Community and some staff of the Assembly on an accommodation facility that was built by the District Assembly” – Mr. Domfeh informed.

Some of the Community Members who were listening to the programme called into the show and possed questions to the Information and the Environmental Health Officer. All questions were satisfactorily answered by the staff of the Assembly.
