The principal objective of the Social Welfare and Community Development Department is to promote and implement government policies and public services that can substantially improve social inclusion, development of people and communities. We coordinate and promote social development programmes and policies to improve the welfare of people and communities in the district.

We represent the district and the district planning units on issues pertaining to social and community development. We are in charge in Planning, initiation and coordination of community-based projects, day care centres and services for the rehabilitation of the physically challenged. We again oversee efficient juvenile justice administration and implementation of statutory legal instruments. Also, monitor and evaluate programmes, policies and emerging social issues such as HIV/AIDS, domestic violence and child abuse, and make recommendations for decision making.
