The department exists to maintain and sustain landscape beautification of built up and natural environment as well as state prestige projects with good management programmes.  The Department also formulates goals and standards relating to the use and development of land. Not only do the Department Design plans and proposals to help in the development of urban and rural settlements but also, assists awareness creation on human settlement and spatial development policies.

We also review human settlement development guidelines and policies periodically; and assist in the monitoring and evaluation of infrastructural development in the district. For beautification of the district, we undertake activities like propagating and cultivating horticultural products for sale to the general public and develop public parks for ecotourism and recreation.
